How Harmful Chemicals Get Into Your Home
The illegal manufacture of methamphetamine in makeshift meth labs is a real and current issue, one which may leave behind health hazards be a potential liability to property owners. During the methamphetamine-manufacturing process, chemical compounds become airborne (volatile) and end up being deposited on walls, ceilings, appliances, floors, carpets and other interior surfaces. The meth residue can be harmful to all occupants especially pets and children, as they are more likely to come into contact with the surfaces.
Drug Testing For Homes
The first step for meth testing will usually involve conducting a field test that involves using one or two test kits to test the property. The meth testing kits are sent to the lab and the result will be a yes/no to the presence of meth.
If meth is found Enell Inspections can conduct detailed testing of the dwelling. This involves using one kit per 100cm2. We collect samples and send these for testing at an accredited laboratory for testing. If your results come back and are of a concerning nature we can help you to develop a structured plan on how to best clean the property, and put you in touch with companies who are qualified and experienced in this type of decontamination.
The main areas of concern are to places which could have come into contact with the chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, these include:

- Disposal areas
- Storage areas
- Locations where contamination could have migrated, such as hallways
- Common areas in multiple dwelling structures
- Adjacent apartments or rooms of apartment blocks
- Common use ventilation shafts
- Plumbing systems in hotels or apartment blocks
